Towards product decarbonisation with lightweight glass
SLOVAKTUAL has taken a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint of several products with the introduction of lightweight glass in some of its windows. This new glass has a lower consumption of materials, which contributes to a reduction in the carbon footprint of up to 15%.
Compared to standard glass, the new lightweight glass gives customers more indoor comfort thanks to the greater sound insulation of the window. When we compare a window that uses the new lightweight glass with a standard window, the sound difference is at 8% – possibly more depending on the window profile system used.
Furthermore, the lower weight of the glass also provides additional advantages throughout the value chain. These include a reduction in the carbon footprint of the transportation needed to deliver the window to the customer and less strain on the installer. The new lightweight glass also reduces the load on the window hinges resulting in a longer lifespan of the window.
